Five Tips for Office Organization

Often times, our workspaces are very cluttered and unorganized. This can be detrimental to your productivity as a lot of time is wasted when you have to continuously search for something in an office filled with chaos.  

Most of us aspire to get up and organize our office space but it can definitely get overwhelming to attempt to put our items in a specific place once it’s been scattered for months or even years.  We have put together some advice that can help you clean and maintain your space.

  1. Purge your office- Take a second to look around your office and toss everything you don’t need or want. Get rid of those knick-knacks that are collecting dust and those old files that haven’t made their way to the shredder.
  2. Modify your filing system- Speaking of old files, in this day and age many offices eliminate clutter by making their files digital. You can clear off all those pesky files and get rid of your mountains of paperwork. Digital files take up far less space on your hard drive than you think and additional storage is getting cheaper every day.
  3. Sort your mail (physical and email) - Sort your mail as soon as it comes in. Create folders and label them by priority and the action you must take. This will keep you from saving junk mail and getting rid of the important stuff!
  4. Straighten your desk every day- Set aside 5 minutes at the end of the day before you leave to straighten up a bit. The feeling of walking into a clean space in the morning will brighten your mood and increase your productivity.
  5. Use containers to organize office supplies- Pick up a variety of small containers to keep your pens, paper clips, envelopes, etc. Get creative and this can also be used to add some decoration to your desk!
